Mayoral Candidates Square Off on Healthcare

imageFrom healthcare legislation and public health issues, to their own blood pressures and choice hospitals, Philadelphia mayoral candidates Michael A. Nutter (D) and Alfred W. Taubenberger (R) squared off on an array of health matters at the Forum on Healthcare in Philadelphia at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on October 15, 2007.

Topics discussed include Governor Rendell’s “Prescription for Pennsylvania” plan, violence as a public health issue, disappearing obstetrics programs in Philadelphia, lead poisoning, and Philadelphia’s role as the country’s “healthcare city.”

The debate was sponsored by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and its Section on Public Health, and supported in part by an unrestricted grant from the Thomas Skelton Harrison Foundation.  Carolyn H. Asbury, PhD, ScMPH, the College’s Section on Public Health and Preventative Medicine Chair, moderated the discussion.
