The Crisis of Childhood Obesity: Is it Reversible?
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia in collaboration with PhillyHealthInfo.org; its Section on Public Health and Preventive Medicine; and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Public Health & Science, Region III present The Crisis of Childhood Obesity: Is It Reversible? on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10:00 AM.
Statistics show that more than 12.5 million children and adolescents—17.1% of people ages 2 to 19 years—are overweight or obese. These children and adolescents are more likely to have serious risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes. Teaching children the importance of healthy eating and being physically active at a young age is crucial to reversing the serious obesity epidemic in this country.
