The Health Promotion Council (HPC) of Southeastern PA, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Health Management Corporation (PHMC), with funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Health in accordance with the 1998 Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, has contracted with specialty providers whose mission is to improve the health and quality of life for all Delaware County residents by preventing, reducing, and/or eliminating tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke pollution.

Accordingly, education, intervention, prevention, enforcement and cessation programs compliant with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines are available free of charge to the community through school programs, county hospitals, various community organizations and health care providers.

Successful programs include age specific group smoking cessation programs, innovative school presentations (Speak for Yourself, BABES and Tar Wars), and the statewide youth advocacy program BUSTED!  Enforcement efforts help curb illegal sales to minors by using a toll-free number for anonymous reporting - 1-888-99-SMOKE and visiting area stores three times annually. Additionally, there are interventions for pregnant women, a free guide to Smoke-Free Dining in Delaware County, and an active Delaware County Tobacco Free Coalition.

If you are thinking about quitting, new cessation classes begin in January. For more information, please log on to http://www.tobaccofreedelco.com or call 610-713-2365.
