Empowering Parents
We are providing health literacy classes for new moms and dads of children with developmental disabilities. They are learning Internet savvy search and evaluation skills to find credible health information. We demonstrate how PhillyHealthInfo.org can help them find local health services and resources they need. Partners are Visions for Equality, Maternal Child and Family Health and Wireless Philadelphia
Educating Teens
Internet health literacy sessions for students in the classroom. High school students at Abraham Lincoln High School in Northeast Philadelphia learned how to search for health information using PhillyHealthInfo.org.
Our Peer Educator Program trains teens to teach other teens how to find credible health information on the Internet and the resources available on PhillyHealthInfo.org. Teens will be involved in developing content and enhancements for PhillyHealthInfo’s teen page. Partners are Philadelphia Compact and City Year.
Free Internet Health Literacy Trainings for Health Professionals and Librarians
PhillyHealthInfo.org received a Health Literacy Award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to train professionals in finding health information using the Internet.
The two hours sessions are for intermediaries working with low-income, low-literacy populations to increase knowledge about online health resources and instruct their clients on how to access quality Internet-based health information. The class will cover tips for using search engines, National Library of Medicine resources as well as PhillyHealthInfo.org to find credible consumer health information.
