- Public Hearing on School Violence - Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations

The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations will hold its second public hearing on school violence on March 16. The public hearings, which will be held throughout the city, are part of a comprehensive plan to examine and address intergroup violence in Philadelphia public schools. The public hearings will focus on violence motivated by race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Testimony will be given by students, parents, faculty, police, community members, and youth-service organizations about violence in Philadelphia’s public schools and will offer suggestions for change. Following the public hearings, the Philadelphia Commission will issue a report detailing findings and policy recommendations for the School District. Nazareth Hospital’s Community Outreach Department will offer free seasonal and H1N1 flu shots for members of the community on Saturday, March 20, 2010 between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nazareth Hospital’s Marian Conference Center at the hospital, 2601 Holme Avenue, Philadelphia. Appointments are required. Call 1-866-NAZARETH (1-866-629-2738). Vaccines are available to adults and to children six months and older with parental consent. Restrictions: anyone who has a fever at time of appointment, allergy to eggs, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, or recurring persistent neurologic illness will not be eligible to receive the vaccine.

Each appointment will include a clinical exam by a qualified physician. Appointments are recommended for those over 50 (or younger if there is a family history of colorectal cancer) who have not been previously diagnosed with colorectal cancer, who have not had a colonoscopy in the last 12 months, and who are not currently undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer.
