Asthma

imageAsthma is a disease that affects the lungs.  People with asthma often have trouble breathing.  They may wheeze, cough, or feel tightness in their chest.  Asthma can even cause what is known an “attack.” An asthma attack is caused by severe swelling in the lungs and can leave someone gasping for air.  An asthma attack may be triggered by smoke, infection, air pollution, or exposure to pollen or animals. To get answers to all your asthma questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.

Currently, asthma affects almost 275,000 people in Southeastern Pennsylvania, many of them children.  PhillyHealthInfo.org is here to help you find asthma support groups and treatment programs in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County. Our resource list in the blue box on the right side of the page is a good place to start.

For more information about how swimming pools can trigger asthma, listen to the following clip from Dr. Brian McDonough.
