Domestic Violence

imageEach year, 4 million women in the United States are victims of domestic violence.  These women come from all races, religions, ethnic groups, classes, and educational backgrounds.  And although it happens to men and to same-sex partners, domestic violence usually involves men abusing their female partners.  Domestic violence results in nearly 2 million injuries and almost 1,300 deaths each year.  In addition, violence can leave behind many unseen physical and emotional scars. Victims of violence often live with lasting health problems like chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, and irritable bowel syndrome, which limit their ability to live productive lives.  To get answers to all your domestic violence questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.

Help is out there although, at first, many victims may be afraid to seek it.  PhillyHealthInfo.org is here to help you find domestic violence hotlines and women’s shelters in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County. Our resource list in the blue box on the right side of the page is a good place to start.
