Eating Disorders

imageFactors such as low self-esteem, pressure to be thin, and stressful life events often play a role in the onset of eating disorders.  Two of the most common eating disorders are Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa.  People with anorexia limit the food they eat and often exercise excessively because they’re afraid of gaining weight.  People with bulimia overeat and then try to purge themselves of the food they’ve eaten to prevent weight gain.  These conditions usually affect girls and young women, although they can affect males, especially, teen males.  In some cases, eating disorders can be life-threatening.  To get answers to all your eating disorder questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.

People with eating disorders can get better, especially if concerned friends and family members are aware of the conditions and prepared to help.
