Organ and Tissue Donation

imageCurrently, there are more than 4,500 people in our area on waiting lists for life-saving organ transplants.  Unfortunately, every day in the United States about 17 people die while awaiting organ transplants because of a shortage of donors.  Luckily, each and every one of us is potential organ or tissue donor.  In Pennsylvania alone, 4 million people are already registered organ donors.  If you’re not already registered, getting an organ donor card is free and just a phone call away.  You can even declare yourself an organ donor when you obtain or renew your driver’s license.  To get answers to all your organ and tissue donation questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.

PhillyHealthInfo.org is here to help you get answers to your questions and find organ donation resources in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County. Our health services list in the blue box on the right side of the page is a good place to start.

On September 23rd, ITVS, WHYY, PhillyHealthInfo.org and Gift of Life Donor Program present a Community Cinema Screening of D TOUR, a new documentary about a rock ‘n roll musician’s struggle to balance his health and dialysis while touring and in search of an organ donor.  Check out the trailer below.
