Spinal Cord Injury

imageEvery year, more than 10,000 Americans experience a spinal cord injury, most as a result of an accident or an act of violence. There are currently over 200,000 people living with a permanent spinal cord injury disability in the United States.

The spinal cord is the main connection between the brain and the rest of body.  If the spinal cord is damaged or if the blood flow to the spinal cord is cut off, the victim can lose feeling or movement in the area(s) below the injury.  This permanent loss of movement is called paralysis, and it can occur in the arms or legs or both; or in vital function areas such as the lungs.  To get answers to all your spinal cord injury questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.
