Suicide

imagePeople who talk about or try to kill themselves often feel hopeless and trapped by their problems. Many times, these feelings can be related to other factors such as depression or substance abuse or a major stressful event like the loss of loved one.  Whatever the cause, 30,000 Americans commit suicide every year.

It’s important to know the warning signs of suicide. People who feel hopeless may talk about suicide, withdraw from friends and family, give away their belongings, or engage in risky behaviors.  If someone you know is thinking about suicide, take it seriously. Urge them to get help.

Suicide is not the only option when you or someone you love is feeling hopeless. Therapy and medicines can help most people who are feeling suicidal. Getting treatment for mental illnesses and substance abuse can reduce the risk of suicide, as well.  To get answers to all your suicide questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.
