Tourette Syndrome

imageTourette syndrome (TS) is a genetic condition that causes repeated, involuntary movements or vocalizations called tics.  These tics can take on many forms including motor tics such as eye blinking, head jerking, shoulder shrugging, and facial grimacing; and verbal tics like throat clearing, yelping, sniffing, tongue clicking, and, in some cases, repeating or speaking words out of context.  To get answers to all your tourette syndrome questions, visit our list of Recommended Sites.

People with Tourette syndrome usually first show symptoms when they’re young; but, TS isn’t common - only one in 1,000 to 2,000 people has the condition. PhillyHealthInfo.org is here to help you find Tourette syndrome support groups and treatment programs in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County. Our health services list in the blue box on the right side of the page is a good place to start.
