Tourette Syndrome
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a genetic condition that causes repeated, involuntary movements or vocalizations called tics. These tics can take on many forms including motor tics such as eye blinking, head jerking, shoulder shrugging, and facial grimacing; and verbal tics like throat clearing, yelping, sniffing, tongue clicking, and, in some cases, repeating or speaking words out of context. People with Tourette syndrome usually first show symptoms when they’re young; but, TS isn’t common - only one in 1,000 to 2,000 people has the condition.
